Exploring Media Studies!

Well, today I had my first class of media studies with Sir Salman and Sir Zia. We were assigned a preliminary task- understanding of conventions. It grabbed my attention. Firstly I would like to discuss what I learned about media and media saturation and media literacy.

History about Media

Why I opted for Media Studies?

Media Studies isn’t easy to describe. It’s a living concept that continues to change just as technology and our experience with technology change. The purpose of Media Studies is to provide audiences with access to information no matter how it is experienced and allow people to adopt diverse critical positions.
Media Studies is desirable because its curriculum is inclusive; it recognizes that the form of delivery as well as the content to be delivered needs to be studied in context. This inclusive, multi-media curriculum provides opportunities for cross-curricular skills to be developed.

The Media: Media is a means of mass communication.
  • Reaches large number of people.
  • It is centrally produced and usually privately consumed
  • Media products are shared
  • Media rely on sophisticated technology
  • Media are modern
  • It is expensive to produce
  • Media should be controlled and regulated.
Media Saturation: This term is used to describe the way in which the media today saturate all aspects of our lives and the extent to which our experience of the world is dominated by the media.

Media Literacy: This means to be able to read media text.
